how do i boot up from other, external drive?
how do i address bios on power up or when running?

I don't have a G1, but try the Del key on startup. After pressing the power button to start it up, either press and hold the Del key or repeatedly press it. It should boot into the BIOS. That's the most common way of getting into the BIOS with their mini PCs.
You can set your first boot device in the Boot section.
If you want to boot to an external drive just for that session, try F7 on startup to get to the Boot menu, as that's the most commonly used Boot menu key with their mini PCs.
Remember, the external drive has to have some type of bootable program on it.
