Which 64GB RAM is recommended?

Post by cheap_pc_gamer »

Hello, I have AMR5 mini pc. I need more RAM and it is supposed to accept 64GB.

I purchased and tried this:
G.Skill RipJaws Series 64GB (2 x 32GB) 260-Pin SO-DIMM PC4-21300 DDR4 2666 CL18-18-18-43 1.20V Dual Channel Memory Model F4-2666C18D-64GRS

With both RAM cards, the screen would be black, or sometimes it would show error code 0xc0000428 in blue screen of death. If I just used one RAM card, it would boot up but then crash shortly after. I returned this RAM because maybe it was broken.

I purchased this afterwards to try: '
Corsair Vengeance Performance SODIMM CMSX64GX4M2A2666C18 64GB 2666MHz CL18 ddr4

With both RAM cards, I see the same problem - black screen or error code 0xc0000428. It also displayed black screen or error code with just one card and did not boot.

When I replace the original RAM, everything works fine.

I have re-installed Windows twice hoping maybe that would fix it, but it does not.

I used this PC for last 6 months and it works well with the original 16 GB Lexar RAM, but I would like to upgrade to 64 GB. Please help.

Thank you much. Those are both 3200 MHz, but the ones that came with my computer run at 2666 MHz. Will 3200 MHz still work for me?

I installed the recommended Crucial RAM kit, and it works well.

Crucial RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Laptop Memory CT2K32G4SFD832A

It's max 32gb per slot, so max 64 splitted 32+32

I think I might be on the path to tracking down RAM issue. I have seen it mentioned in many questions on this blog. Let me know what you think. I am not pro, just noob. :D

All of the RAM which you have been recommending have CL (CAS Latency) of 22, and the RAM in my ARM5 (lexar LD4aS008G-2666SC) seems to have either a CL19 or CL22 (it is difficult to know which one). The RAM I have tried which I asked this question about all have CL 18 (which is lower). It is reasonable that a motherboard could use slower RAM (CL22) or RAM of same speed (CL19 or CL22) but not faster RAM (CL18). Can your technical professionals please confirm the necessary CAS Latency of RAM for this motherboard in AMR5? I think it is 19 or larger? Or maybe 22 or larger?

What is the lowest CAS Latency of RAM which can be used in this AMR5 motherboard?

Thank you so much

Hello, I discovered the problem is the CAS Latency (CL).

I tried RAM with a CL of 19 @ 2666 MHz and all of the 3200 MHz RAM you recommended (CL 22) and it all works. So, if anyone else is having the same problems with RAM, where it isn’t recognized, it causes crashes, or the computer won’t boot, the answer is simple - just use RAM with a CL of 19 or greater. Also, these motherboards can handle 3200 MHz, so I’d advise using 3200 MHz for optimum performance.

Thanks for the help.

We have been buying timetec memory and had fairly good luck. Note you can get a bad batch once in a while so make sure to run a diagnostic on the new memory.
