i5-8279U second M.2 ssd slot?
i5-8279U second M.2 ssd slot?
Is this slot (near Cdtech module) deactivated? Bios shows no SSD (neither original SSD changed from original position nor 2 other SSDs 256gb). Regards BobS
Re: i5-8279U second M.2 ssd slot?
Hi, After reviewing the video I have some questions:
1. is about the message on top of the video: "CK10 inner hard disk bay supports NVME; outer hard disk bay only supports NVME, you can refer to the video: " Is it correct or there is a typo in it?
2. Just to be sure, Inside the box there are 2 M2 bays, one is already used by the original M2, and I don't quite understand in the video the reason why you are moving the original M2 to the second M2 slot and put the new M2 in the first bay. Couldn't you put the new M2 directly in the empty M2 slot without removing the original M2?
3. Can I plug a M2 NVME disk in the unused M2 slot directly? Should it be PCI 3.0 or could it be v4.0?
Thank you in advance

Re: i5-8279U second M.2 ssd slot?
Nebur,
1. It's just a typo on the part of barry. The inner slot supports NVMe (and likely SATA as well), while the outer slot supports SATA only.
2. It's just a guess, but the drive the unit in the video had was SATA, and in order to install an NVMe drive that SATA drive had to be moved to the outer slot, since the only slot that can support NVMe is the inner one.
3. Only the inner, middle slot supports NVMe. As for the type, I believe it's PCIe 3.0, but I'm not positive of that, so barry or the admin will have to verify what it is. I do know that a PCIe 4.0 drive will work in a PCIe 3.0 slot, though it will perform at PCIe 3.0 speeds, so if you already have one you can use it. If you don't already have one, I'd wait to see what they say. With that said, PCIe 4.0 drives tend to produce more heat.
Hopefully you'll get a reply from barry or the admin soon regarding the PCIe type.

Thank you for the answer. I understand that the video is specific for the i5-8279U, but could it be that in the model i5-12450H both slots admit 2 NVMe?

Since your CK10 is a different version than what's in the video, I'd recommend reaching out directly to barry, at barry@minipcunion.com and asking. I imagine it's the same with the version you have, but I can't say that with 100% certainty, so it would be a good idea to check to be sure.
