AM07 Thoughts

Hello Everyone! After using the AM07 for a few days now i want to share my thoughts.

Features:
  • AMD Ryzen 5 5500U (6C/12T, up to 4,0 GHz)
  • 16GB DDR4
  • 512GB SSD
  • Windows 11 22H2 Pro preinstalled
First Steps:
To get around the annoying Microsoft Account requirement in the 22H2 Windows 11 Branch you can press Shift+F10 in the Setup.
In the command prompt that pops up you enter the following:

Code: Select all

OOBE\BYPASSNRO
The setup will restart but this time it will allow you to continue with an offline account!

Out of curiosity i checked for the state of the installed updates. The last updates were installed in february so this device offers a fairly recent out of the box Windows experience!
I installed all offered updates including optional driver updates and made a backup of the drivers in that state. Afterwards i installed the AMD Adrenaline edition chipset and gpu driver.

Performance:
Benchmarking the SSD and network adapters showed excellent performance.

When it comes to gaming the AM07 can be roughly compared with a SteamDeck. It seems to be a bit weaker in some scenarios but it was generally in line with what i was expecting.

Rocket League is playable with 60FPS in 1080p with the option to get higher framerates through lowering the resolution and some other settings.

Emulation works great! I even ran the latest version of the Yuzu emulator to test a few games. Overall the performance with yuzu is game-dependent and varies from great to unplayable.
You can expect to emulate every older system just fine though!

I ran the Rise of the Tomb Raider Benchmark with mixed results.
1080p
Medium Preset (DX12): 17,92 overall
Lowest Preset (DX12): 28,43
Lowest Preset (DX11): 23
720p
Medium Preset (DX12): 33,3
Hich Presset, Low Shadows (DX12): 27,7

Fortnite barely acceptable with the lowest preset so this computer is mostly for office stuff and light gaming duties.
Overall i'm very satisfied with the device!

If anyone is interested in the preinstalled drivers: i can upload those as needed but the whole set is 1,3GB in size so too big to attach it here.

Driver Backup

Code: Select all

yes, please upload the drivers, does the fan work well for you? many of us have got it but it never turns off and always runs at full speed, what about you? can you see if there is a setting in the bios to control it?

I have issues with the fan aswell. It runs at a constant speed. I'm not sure if that is the max speed as it is not very noisy.
The BIOS itself is pretty barebones but i'll take another look now

Drivers are uploading and i will post the link in my initial post

thanks, to some of us the fan runs at full speed or makes a lot of noise anyway

The location i placed it in covered up the sound quite well. Now that i tested further i see the sound you mean.
It is noticeable and seems to be at constant speed. I might disassembly my unit soon to look inside. Maybe there is a fitting silent fan to replace the current one so even without a bios update the volume should be way lower.

Ciao guys,
i've received today my brand new AM07 mini PC as soon as i've turned it on the fan never stop spitting air to max speed producing an high pick noise, Do you have any clue way?

I'm worried about having that fun always at full tilt 24/7 since i'll use this unit as Proxmox server..

I've also tried to take a look into BIOS settings but it is a very simple one (i've enabled "acpi auto configuration" without any change)...

One good note is that i've put inside my unit 64 GB of ram 3200MHz and has been recognised without issue.

Thanks in advance,

Ciao ciao!

The Amazon description reads expandable. I do not see any screws to unscrew or any way to open the case. Any feedback? Do you have to remove the rubber feet?
Thanks!

Awesome! I see from the video that the rubber feet can be removed for access to the screws. Thanks.
