RAM upgrade?

Hi.

I've just received my AK1Pro, so far - so good. Seems like a nice piece of kit. Mine came equipped with 8gb of ram and I was wondered whether it's possible to upgrade the RAM and if so, by how much / what the maximum would be?

Any advice would be very welcome!

Thanks in advance.

ezc,

While the internal storage is upgradeable in the AK1 Pro (to 512GB), the RAM is not. The RAM is a soldered on, permanent part of the system board.

They do make and sell different models:
8GB memory: www.amazon.com/KAMRUI-AK1-Computers-Com ... 0B8BQ42DB/
16GB memory: www.amazon.com/2-9GHz-Computers-Windows ... 0BQW2BKYJ/

But as Gabe pointed out, it's not user replaceable. Much like buying most computers from Apple, you need to choose wisely.

Hi Gabe / Dragonpoo for your answers, they're very much appreciated.

However, I think I may have a bit of an anomaly then, as my system board definitely has a SO-DIMM slot (Please see pics)

This slot is on the underside of the system board, on the opposite side to the M.2 internal storage.

Any ideas?

Thanks once again in advance.

ezc,

My mistake. I was going by the Q&A on Amazon, with the answers given by Kamrui, as I don't have an AK1 pro.

No worries. In hindsight, I now realise that I should have said it was a NiPoGi AK1 Pro, as that also might have some bearing on any answers,…

I wouldn't think it would make a difference as to which brand it is, as they do sell like models under different brands, but I've seen odder things. It's also interesting that the memory is on the opposite side of the board. That's something I've not seen before with this system board style. Pretty neat, actually.

Okay, you had me curious. I pulled open my AK1pro to compare insides. Strange that it's the same model with different design. As you can see, the memory side does not include a physical port for upgrading, so it came with 8GB RAM and will always have that.

(side note: You can also see that I put a NVMe SSD in)

That's weird too, as according to this post, the AK1 Pro doesn't support NVMe. I thought it did.

How strange! Thanks Dragonpoo for those images and Gabe for your help. I’m going to see if I can grab a 16gb SO-DIMM, install it and see what happens. I’ll update here when it’s done (in case upgradable ram is where they’re going with this design)
