Win10 Tips and Tricks-Part 1

Post by admin »

Whether you have used Win10 for many years or only recently upgraded, there are many new and old tips, tricks, and hidden functions for learning, which will make your use more smooth and convenient.

1. Minimize all windows except the active window

If your desktop screen is crowded with open windows, you can quickly minimize them, except for the windows currently in use.
Just click the title bar of the window you want to keep open to select it. Then, hold down the mouse and quickly move the window back and forth-essentially shaking it. After a few quick shakes, all other open windows will be minimized, leaving only the windows you shake open. Neat?

2. Open the "Secret" start menu

You know that to enter the Start menu, click the Windows icon at the bottom left of the screen or on the keyboard. But Windows 10 includes a little-known second "Start" menu, which makes it easier to access important functions such as the command prompt, control panel, and task manager. You can access it in two ways: press the Windows key + X, or right-click the Windows icon/start button.

3. Create an event without opening the calendar app

The latest update to Win10 allows you to quickly add events to the Microsoft calendar directly from the taskbar-without opening the calendar at all. Methods as below:
1. On the taskbar, click the box with the upper right corner's time and date.
2. Click the date you want to schedule the event.
3. Enter the event name, time, and location. (If you have multiple calendars, click the down arrow next to the event name field to select the calendar you want to add to.)
4. Click Save. The event should appear in the "Calendar" app on all devices.

4. Screenshot

I know that this is a basic operation-but; it is surprising how easy it is to forget how to take a screenshot on a laptop or desktop when you don't use it often.
There are at least eight different ways to take screenshots in Windows 10. If you want to capture and save a picture of the entire screen, the easiest way is to press the Windows key + print screen key, and then the picture will be saved. Go to the Pictures>Screenshots folder.
To capture only a part of the screen, press Windows key + Shift + S to open a Snip & Sketch tool, which can click and drag to create a screenshot and save it to the clipboard.

5. Use keyboard shortcuts to open items on the taskbar

If you have pinned the program to the taskbar at the bottom of the screen to create a shortcut, you can open it without clicking the icon. Instead, use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + [number key], which corresponds to the program's position on the taskbar. For example, Windows key + 2 will open the second item on the taskbar.
This is especially useful if you are typing violently and do not want to lift your fingers from the keyboard. It may be more natural to touch the Windows key.

6. Find out how much space the apps take-up

Due to lack of space, the computer started to run slower. A quick way to speed them up might be to get rid of apps that take up more space than they should, especially if you use them irregularly.
To see how much space the app uses, navigate to Settings>System>Storage. Click on the drive you want to search (probably the local storage "This PC"), and then click "Apps and Games" to see a list of applications installed on your computer and how much space they take up. You may not get rid of the browser, but you may find that games you haven’t played in years can indeed reduce weight.
