Is it possible and supported to switch off the fans completely?

There is quite a large discrepancy between the core temperatures that the Core Temp and SpeedFan programs display when you run both side by side. SpeedFan starts just about at the ambient temperature (which I consider logical), whereas Core Temp directly jumps to 40°C+. The difference is almost 20°C...

Just used Speedfan to check the temperatures when the fan started: HD0 33C CPU1 26C CPU2 26C CPU3 24C CPU4 24C. The environment is at about 21C. Now it seems that, when all CPUs are down to or below 23C for some seconds, the fan gets a bit slower, when ist goes to 24C again it vents faster. HD0 is a...
